Overdrive & Lucky Day

I’m experimenting with the Lucky Day service offered through Overdrive. I tried to do it through our advantage account, but didn’t have enough copies to make it work. So I am experimenting at the Consortia level, which means all of Wyoming will benefit not just Natrona County. 😊

Please do not market the Lucky Day collection. It will show up on the main page in list of curated lists. There are only 35 titles in it, so marketing it will leave more people upset than thrilled. And since it’s an experiment I’m not sure if it will be something permanent or something short-lived. Based on how quickly the patrons found the recommend to library function, I’m fairly certain that they’ll find this pretty quickly, too.

The titles in the list are all copies Natrona has purchased this week specifically for this experiment, so the only impact on the consortia is positive. The lucky day collection is a collection of some of the high hold titles and if there is a copy in the list patrons may check out 1 Lucky Day item at a time.  These Lucky Day items only check out for 7 days. This alone will help some of the holds lists move quicker with a shorter circulation period.

If a patron has a hold on a title and gets lucky and gets it as a Lucky Day title through Libby their hold will automatically be removed. If they are using the Overdrive app or the website, it will prompt them to remove the hold themselves, but won’t do it automatically.

The Lucky Day Curated List will only show titles that are available to be checked out immediately. There will be instances where there all 35 and there will be times when only 2 or 3 will show up. As the titles are checked out they will not show up on the list since they aren’t available for immediate checkout

If this turns out to be unpopular with patrons or too time intensive to manage, I’ll just delete the lucky day list and the titles will move into the regular collection and we’ll just own one more copy of them to help manage holds.

Feel free to contact me if you have questions – I’m learning as I go with this one. I’ll give it a couple of weeks and see how it goes!

Thanks, Kate
