I started this email 2 days ago and when I went in to do some ordering today I now see that there are 353 titles with expired access with 630 holds. I know several counties have been actively monitoring this and repurchase or remove holds, but I know not all libraries have gotten into the weeds on the process.  Please let me know if you don’t know how to access this data and either want me to send you a report of what titles your patrons are waiting on or show you how to do it. I am happy to do either.  By the end of the year we should either repurchase or delete holds for the reasons stated below.

I am going to go through and make some decisions on repurchasing, so by the time you look and create a report there might be less than 353, however it’s likely to still be close to 300 items.

There are 159 titles with expired metered access that have a total of 274 holds. As long as they have holds 1) the patron is still waiting on something that they aren’t going to get, 2) other patrons can continue to place holds on an item they aren’t going to get, and 3) the hold counts against the number of holds a patron can place.

If the titles are not going to be repurchased the holds need to be removed and the titles will weed automatically. I’m happy to actually remove the holds and I’m comfortable removing holds from titles that have only Natrona County patron holds if I’m not repurchasing it, but I’m not comfortable doing that with other county patrons without their home library knowing. (unless you’ve told me already that it’s okay to just weed and there are a couple of counties that have).

I just don’t have time to send a list of titles showing which county has holds like I’ve done in the past when the lists were smaller 😊

Thanks so  much and please reach out if I can help.

Thanks everyone!  Kate

Dearest Kate, our Overdrive Superhero!

What kind of message do patrons receive when a Hold is cancelled because the title access is no longer available?

Thanks for all you do, Wonderful Woman,

I’m not really sure what time machine I’ve been in that I dated those 2023 – I really did mean 2022.

Thanks to those who have checked in to see what titles their patrons have on hold or told me to remove the holds.

There are still about 200 titles with holds but no access.

Kate, who really is still in 2022
