Notify Me tags & advantage accounts

Just the messenger -  so no shooting allowed 😊

I can’t do anything about the change to the notify me tags – it’s gotten a mixed bag of responses, probably like most changes do…

However since it’s here and all we can do is provide feedback, there are ways to manage the data.

First and foremost – I know several libraries monitor the notify me tags and purchase titles with multiple tags. I personally wait until it’s out of preorder status, but others purchase in preorder. A big percentage of the time they are titles that we were ready to purchase anyway. There are those other titles that are out of date, poorly reviewed, super expensive, don’t fit the collection development plan, etc. that I don’t purchase and I’m guessing others don’t either.

Currently when I go in and look at the list of items that have not been purchased Only 3 have mor than 10 active notify me tags. 2 of those titles are pre-orders and one is in German (the title in German has 15 notify me tags…so if there is a county that knows they have an active German reading population that is likely from your patrons 😊 – there is also a title in Italian with 9 tags….)

If you do want to know which tags are tied specifically to your own patrons that information is through an advantage log in. If you do not have an advantage account, there is a NO COST advantage enrollment form Kate @ Overdrive has sent me.

She is willing to do training for Wyoming libraries on notify me tags if anyone is interested. She can do that one-on-one or we can set up a time (or multiple times) for group trainings.  Feel free to let her know if you are interested in some training.

Thanks, Kate

The other thing that is as important to watch as notify me tags are the holds/hold ratio/expired titles with holds – there are as many if not more patrons waiting on those titles than people waiting on notify me tags. If you don’t know how to access that data feel free to reach out to either me or Kate @ Overdrive (Kate Connell kconnell@overdrive.commailto:kconnell@overdrive.com)

Thanks! Kate
